I walked into the Hayden Planetarium in New York and sat through a screening of Encounters in the Milky Way. When it ended I just sat there for a while.

Before that, everything I'd made was a window. You look through a screen into somewhere else. The dome was different. There was no frame, no edge. You were inside it. The image wasn't in front of you. It was above, below, everywhere. Your body didn't know where to anchor itself, and that disorientation felt like the closest thing to dreaming while awake.

I wanted to make that feeling, but with my own world inside it.

Second Nature is a fulldome film that takes the Digiscape vocabulary — the landscapes, the particle systems, the light behaviors I've been building for years — and wraps it around you. Clouds pulse like bioluminescence. Trees shift between angular and organic shapes as though nature is editing its own geometry. Everything in the film comes from something real, but inside the dome, surrounded by Bo-Xun Lin's score, it becomes a place you've never been.

What if you could fall asleep and land inside a nature that runs on different rules? That's what I was going for. After three years of building digital landscapes on screens, Second Nature was the moment Digiscape escaped the rectangle.
