The first time I saw bioluminescence with my own eyes, I couldn't believe it was real.

I knew it existed. I'd seen photos, watched videos. But standing there, watching the water light up — that gap between knowing something and actually seeing it was enormous. The glow only appeared when something disturbed the surface. Still water, nothing. A wave, and suddenly the whole coastline was electric blue.

Sea Sparkle is my attempt to recreate that gap. Not the bioluminescence itself, but the surprise of it. The installation is dark and quiet until you interact with it. Then light blooms across the surface, reactive, alive, unpredictable. When you stop, it fades back to stillness.

What if you could trigger bioluminescence with your own hands?

The sound in this piece is generated in real time through iPad control. No loops, no pre-recorded tracks. Every session sounds different because every interaction is different.
