I can't swim.

For years I assumed you need to know how to swim to go snorkeling, so I never tried. When I finally went in Lanyu, I realized that was completely wrong. You just float.

The moment I put my face underwater, everything changed. The silence was the first thing. Not the absence of sound, but a different kind of sound. Heavy, muffled, full. Then the light. Sunlight coming through the surface broke into these shifting beams, scattering color across the sandy bottom. Everything moved slowly, constantly. I didn't want to come up.

Seabed is my attempt to stay in that moment. Not to recreate the ocean, but to recreate the feeling of being suspended inside it. That drifting, present, slightly lonely state where time seems to thicken.

Looking back, this was the first time I started thinking about Digiscape as a space people could inhabit, not just watch.
