An interactive installation created for Arphic Technology to launch their variable font ShuYuanSong, co-directed with Ting-An Ho.

Variable fonts allow a single typeface to shift continuously across weight, width, and size. We wanted to make that flexibility physical. The installation uses infrared body tracking to link visitors' movements directly to the font's three axes of variation. Step closer and the characters thicken. Shift your weight and the width stretches. Every subtle movement produces a different typographic form, projected at scale across the venue wall.

The aim was to let people feel the font's range through their body rather than read about it in a spec sheet.
